Small study aid, fits in purse, easy to take out in car or waiting room

This fits in a purse, an apron pocket, a labcoat pocket, or a console in a car. It's small, if I hold my thumb and pinkie out, that's how long it is, and it is only the width of my index finger. It is spiral bound at the top and the pages turn easily. The paper is thick enough that the pages should not easily tear out.

I think this is not only good for students studying for exams, but it's also good for student nurses doing preceptorships, nurses that have perhaps been out of the field for a while that would just like to brush up or as part of a unit library that would be helpful for nurses who are pulled out of their primary specialty. Of course, the problem with making it part of a unit library is that it is small enough be misplaced or 'walk off.'

It really packs a lot into a small format, yet it is easy to read, with the information laid out in a concise, well-organized format with lots of tables. It is laid out by types of nursing, such as pediatrics, psychiatric, ect. There's a good bit included on diagnostics and assessment.Interventions are nursing- this has a bit of pharmacology in it but that's not its forte. It does have a lot of medical terminology in it, and it is presented in such a way to get a studying or new nurse used to identifying and remembering it.

Great Spiral Bound Booklet With Access Code to Online Tests

I am a nurse and know how hard I studied for the NCLEX. In order to pass the test, you have to use a variety of study and prep tools.

NCLEX-RN Notes is a small spiral bound content review and exam prep booklet. It has over 300 pages but is less than 5 inches long and a few inches wide.

Anything that is going to be on the NCLEX, you will probably find here. There is information on anatomy, disease processes, dosage calculations, and more. There are test taking tips and a study skills guide.

This book purchase also comes with an access code to Davis Plus website. I used my code to access the site and took a practice test. You can create practice tests for 500 question tests on this website. Each question has information about the question, so you can review your answers immediately. The key is learning. You can take the 500 question test, or stop at any time and have the test graded. Again, learning is the objective with these resources, and when you miss a question, you given the correct answer and information about that question.

My advice to anyone taking the NCLEX is to study, study, study, and take as many practice tests as you can. When you get to the point where you are passing your practice tests with almost 90% or greater, you are probably ready. You can never been too ready. When you study and prepare for the NCLEX, you will not be as nervous during the test, and contrary to popular belief, you will have the confidence to know you passed the test.

This is a handy study guide that comes with great test taking practice tests online. I highly recommend it.

Buy this handy guide when you start nursing school! Also a great review for the NCLEX-RN

This is such an awesome reference! I am about to graduate from an ADN program and will take the NCLEX in about 2 months. I plan to go through this guide, about 15-20 pages a day, as part of my review. The sections are color-coded: dark green for basics, maroon for childbearing, purple for peds, blue for med-surg, red for meds and green for tools and index.The guide is very small, so I can keep it in my purse or backpack and refer to it throughout the day. I plan to keep it in my bag when I'm an RN as a quick-reference. The online quizzes are very helpful, but it did take a little time to get my account set up. For some reason, I was not able to register on my laptop, even though I tried 2 different browsers. I kept getting an error message that the site had timed out. Maybe it was a problem with cookies or something? I was able to register with my phone though. Now I'm able to access the practice questions on my phone as well as my laptop. I wish I had purchased this handy guide during my first semester of nursing school. Don't wait until you're about to take the NCLEX-- buy this handy guide early and start practicing and learning.

Growing up as the daughter of piano teacher Gladys Smisor, Jane began her childhood lessons with Leota Anderson in Hutchinson, Kansas. After graduating from Barnard College of Columbia University, she continued her studies with Isabelle Vengerova in New York, and received a Master of Arts degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. Jane Smisor Bastien was formerly a pedagogy professor and director of the Preparatory Department of Music at Tulane University, where she had an opportunity to extensively research current methodology in developing the Bastien teaching materials for children.

Because she still teaches a large number of students in her home in La Jolla (San Diego), Jane's composing continues to be directly related to her own students' experiences. She knows what appeals to contemporary children and writes music that they will find fun to play. In recognition of their significant contribution to music and music education, Jane and her husband James Bastien were presented with the 1999 MTNA Lifetime Achievement Award.

It's often a harrowing tale: born in 1962, Chen was the grandson of a landlord, which rendered his entire family pariahs during the Cultural Revolution. And though initially an excellent student, he was ostracized in school and told he could never attend college. He responded by making friends with a group of young thugs who drank, smoked, and gambled but were kind to him. After Mao died in 1976, the budding juvenile delinquent discovered that higher education might be available to him after all. Chen worked hard to make up for years of neglected studies, and his memoir closes with a jubilant scene as he and his brother Jin are both accepted into college; for his suffering family, "thirty years of humiliation had suddenly come to an end." Chen's lucid yet emotional prose unsparingly portrays a topsy-turvy society where unfairness reigns and the rules are arbitrarily changed without warning, but his zest for life and sharp eye for character make even the most awful moments grimly funny. The grandchild of a former landlord--China's most spat-upon class after the Revolution--Chen was regularly beaten to a pulp by other children and, despite performing at the top of his class, repeatedly denied the right to continue at school. His family of nine--including his brother, three sisters, grandparents and parents--subsisted on moldy yams alone for entire winters. Meanwhile, his grandfather was attacked randomly by neighbors and forced by the local authorities to guard lumber and tend fields. Chen's father, with his prerevolutionary college education, eventually managed to extract himself from the labor camps by becoming skilled in acupuncture (he used the biggest needles on the hated "cadres"). At the climax of this survival story, Chen, the book's first-person narrator, and his older brother, Jin, both compete in China's first nationwide, open educational tests in 1977: "We were out to make a point. The Chen family had been dragged through the mud for the last forty years.... Now it was time." Scoring among the top 2% of the country, the 14-year-old Chen achieved his dream of attending Beijing Language Institute. According to the epilogue, after graduating with high honors, he wound up in New York at age 23, where he won a scholarship to attend Columbia Law School, and later landed a job on Wall Street and married a doctor. Despite the devastating circumstances of his childhood and adolescence, Chen recounts his coming of age with arresting simplicity. Over the past few years, Chinese memoirs dealing with adolescence in Communist China, written mostly by women who subsequently moved to the United States, have proliferated. These include Anchee Min's Red Azalea, Jaia Sun-Childers's The White-Haired Girl: Bittersweet Adventures of a Little Red Soldier, and Rae Yang's Spider Eaters. This work, written by a young man who came of age after the Cultural Revolution, is similar in some respects: Chen's bourgeois family was persecuted by the state, and he eventually left China to live in the United States. But Chen's story is different from the others because he grew up in rural, not urban, China. It carries an easily recognizable theme (boy falls in with hoodlums, then pulls himself up to succeed against all odds), which is at once uplifting and unsatisfying. Chen, who attended Columbia University Law School on a full scholarship and has worked on Wall Street, has written a clear and fast-moving book, but readers looking for either a modest narrator or a way to make sense of recent events in China will be disappointed.APeggy Spitzer Christoff, Oak Park, IL

a moving autobiography.

A writer living in New York, Da Chen describes the harrowing tale of his youth when his family suffers untold misery during the Cultural Revolution. Ostracized for being a landlord’s grandson, Da Chen has to leave school and can take up education again only after Chairman Mao’s death, when the humiliation finally ends.

Captivating Memoir

Author Da Chen writes an interesting semi-autobiographical novel of his years growing up during Chairman Mao's Cultural Revolution. He narrates his rise from the persecuted landlord class up into the revered educated class during one of China's most turbulent periods. More interesting, though, is the glimpse we get of the madness that pervaded China during that time. Educated and skilled city workers were forced en masse out to the countryside to work the farmlands. Farmers and peasants were sent into the cities to run the schools and bureaucracy. Inevitable chaos ensured. Yet, life goes on and some people, like Chen, still managed to triumph through the struggles and sufferings.

I would agree that Chen's perspectives on historical events may not have been totally objective or acurate. But the ease and warmth in which he recounts his own story makes "Colors of the Mountain" both captivating and inspiring. I liked it.

An interesting story of what life was like after Mao's introduction of the Communist Party to China, written by a young man full of spirit and will who was determined to succeed in the educational system which prevailed at the advent of Communism, in spite of all that he was up against. Enjoyable and well written. Never bitter about everything that happened to him, he took the lemons life handed him and made lemonade.

I got this book for my ENglish 1C class, and it's surprisingly really really good. I love the Author's writing style and her use of entertaining material, such as political cartoons and relevant essays.

This book was chosen by the instructor and at first I wasn't sure if I was going to really be able to get into it...until I went to class! Now that it is all highlighted and underlined I really like the book and plan to use it again when I have to write papers for future classes.

About the Author

Excellent book

I found this book in amazon inadvertently, I was actually looking for baking form ... But found la clouce and references to this amazing book. first the title picture makes your mouth water. Than I read glowing reviews and ordered it. After I got it, I started reading it... I couldn't stand up, I was so hooked to it ... Carol describes Italy cinematic, people who helped her, art of bread making - its breathtaking ... Even how to make yeast on your own... While reading the book, you can feel the enormous work she had put in research.

As for recipes (very clearly written, before starting with recipes, its good to read first chapter on basic bread baking) ... I baked for now mushroom bread, was very delicious, can't wait for tomorrow to bake rosemary bread ... I love this book, it will certainly be a classic.

I got this book for my mom as well .. and recommend it to all my friends. One thing I have to mention (Its absolutely no issue for me),but if you're fan of books with photographs, than you'll be disappointed. It has clear drawn pictures, to assist the instructions. But the only photograph for this book is in the front page.

So exited when i was received this recipe book.In this book, got mention her experience, even a pie,she also got mention its history,ori came frm which country and so on.Also it is very suit for the beginning baker too, not difficult to follow her instruction.This book although no pretty picture like others,but i like the traditional way to present her own style and design.Some more i felt so intimate too,because an each recipe, she did't leaking of warm reminder, example : how to use by hand, by mixer or by processor.Last word, GREAT! GREAT! i love this book so much !!!thanks Carol for sharing.

Artisan bread at its best.

I purchased this book when I became the baker at my restaurant. Two of our staples come from this book, the foccacia and the Pane Pugliese. I am going to roll out the Lake Como Bread here soon, and I'm sure it won't disappoint. Be sure you make a biga and do those bread recipes that use it, because it undoubtedly adds that full rustic flavor that will make truely authentic bread.

Excellent - best travel book on Mexico. Updated my old copy, we even keep our old copies.
Mexico is a very wealthy country. I am not talking about money, but o f the many things to see in each state. how about a book on resources in each state. Silver mines, large caves in Taos, Indian ruins in a lot of states, and haciendas in every state.
Maybe something already exists, but a gringo like me would love to receive a travel book showing where all these sites can . be located. You are blessed with so much richness.
