Mr. Smith is also the author of chapters in several books.

Mr. Smith has been a featured speaker at investment conferences throughout North America and Europe. He has appeared many times on such national television shows as Wall Street Journal Report, and Moneyline as well as other shows on CBS, Fox News, Bloomberg, CNN, and CNNfn. Well worth it!

This book is great for the beginner who knows nothing at all about spreads but who desires to learn and also for the intermediate trader who wants a greater depth of knowledge. The information is quite comprehensive, and presented in language that is very readable. This book help me get an understanding of the fundamentals behind markets. It belongs in the library of every trader.

Definitely not the complete guide.

This book provides little more than a pedestrian introduction to commodity spreads. The book includes quite a bit of information that would best be left to other tomes: introduction to least squares regression (you would do better to use a Statistics 101 book), development of a trading system (get a book on trading systems/methods...), etc. The only material that I thought carried unique insight was the brief portion on EuroDollar Futures. There was only shallow discussion on analysis of futures patterns, or market tendencies. This book would only be useful if you know NOTHING about spreads.

Just short of a PKD masterpiece

A truly astonishing work that, in my opinion, should easily stand among PKD's best work save for one flaw - an unnecessary epilogue that saps a bit of power from the otherwise gut-wrenching finish, putting a happy polish on what should have been a more bleak finale.

Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said is, like the works that best represent Philip K. Dick's career, a "What is reality?" book. The scenario he lets unfold - one day a guy is the Johnny Carson of his time, known and loved by all, the next day he is an unknown without an identity and doesn't know why - keeps you turning pages, wanting to know the truth as badly as the protagonist. The world he creates is, as always, intricate in its not-quite-the-world-we-know details. And the ending? Wow. Remove that epilogue (which in a very unDickian manner wraps everything up in a neat little bow at the end) and it's very powerful. If you've read PKD before, this will be familiar to you - twisted reality, hazy drugs, a world turned on its head - and if you haven't, Flow My Tears offers a good look at everything that makes up what a Philip k. Dick book is.

If only it didn't have that darn Hollywood ending ...

Can't say much more than other brilliant reviewers here

Can't say much more than other brilliant reviewers here. The very intelligent, insightful calibre of most of their reviews tells you something about the book that is worth their attention. Phillip K. Dick wrote a huge number of short stories and novels that are only now able, with the magic of cg, to be made into popular movies, standing the test of time. Although there are some easily forgiven minor future gaffs of technology, Dick's true talent is in the big picture of predicting the way we are headed and in "what if" scenarios. Most of his books I would actually categorize as psychological thrillers, scaring us into mending our ways because this is what can happen if we keep on the way the world is so blithley heading. Flow my tears is one of his better books - those written in the 60's and 70's for me, his best. For anyone not familiar with PKD, this is a good one to start with - you will understand whether you just don't get it and drop the author, or love the quirky originality and have that rare joy of finding an author you haven't read, who has left you a huge body of work to keep you going.

Hua! It's about time.

My business, Northwest Database Services, has cleaned clients' data for over 20 years. In all that time I've only met two or three people who do this kind of work professionally on a regular basis. (Our conventions are small.)

With this in mind, it is easy to see why I was so pleased and surprised to find someone had written a book about the subject; especially as thoughtful and insightful a one as Quality Data Assessment.

Arkady Maydanchik brings years of experience and first-hand knowledge to the table, while organizing it into a logical, sequential and, most important, understandable manual. This book goes into the typical causes of data degradation as well as how to find it and begin the process of fixing it.

You can't even begin to fix your data until you have a clear picture of what's going on "in there", so data assessment is the first and maybe the most important step in achieving data consistency and reliability. If your work involves data assessment, migration creation or maintenance, you should have this book on your shelf. It's that simple.

But wait, there's more. This is just the first volume in a set of data assessment and cleaning processes, tips, tricks and tools books that will be forthcoming. I'm told that the second volume in this series will be published in October 2008. I know it sounds incredibly geeky, but I can hardly wait.

A Tough Subject Made Easier

Data quality assessment has become so much a part of many data quality programs that we assume that everyone knows how to do it well and efficiently. But this is not the case. Done well, assessment is technically difficult and demanding, often conducted under the press of time, short on budget, and long on conflicting management demands. Much can, and does, go wrong. So Arkady Maydanchik's volume is a welcome addition to the data quality literature. It describes the end-to-end assessment process and each step in a brisk, easy-to-read style.

I especially liked portions of Chapter 8. They lay out a process for actually creating business rules, another one of those nettlesome tasks that people underestimate.

It's not all about performance...

Managing data most effectivly and analyze that data quick and smart are some of the main requirements for modern database management systems. But what use is all this, when the quality of the underlying raw data is poor?

This book introduces the reader on a very high level precisely, but always easy to understand into several methods and techniques that can be applied to a data quality assessment project. It should be part of the toolbox for everyone concerned about data quality.

Suyog Sarda is a professional software engineer and an open source enthusiast. He focuses on compiler development and compiler tools. He is an active contributor to the LLVM open source community. Suyog was also involved in code performance improvements for the ARM and X86 architectures. He has been a part of the compiler team for the Tizen project. His interest in compiler development lies more in code optimization and vectorization. Previously, he has authored a book on LLVM, titled LLVM Cookbook by Packt Publishing. Apart from compilers, Suyog is also interested in Linux Kernel Development. He has published a technical paper titled Secure Co-resident Virtualization in Multicore Systems by VM Pinning and Page Coloring at the IEEE Proceedings of the 2012 International Conference on Cloud Computing, Technologies, Applications, and Management at the Birla Institute of Technology, Dubai. He has earned a bachelor's degree in computer technology from the College of Engineering, Pune, India.

Mayur Pandey is a professional software engineer and open source enthusiast focused on compiler development and tools. He is an active contributor to the LLVM open source community. Excellent resource for electrical testing.

This book explains in detail the procedures for testing of most power type electrical equipment. The author explains in great detail the testing process, the purpose of the tests, and the acceptable and unacceptable results. Examples of data forms are provided. The author even reviews a process to set up a preventive maintenance program. Highly recommended.

The author presents the materials very effectively. The book is both an indispensible resource for the practicing engineer, as well as an ideal training tool for teachers and students engaged in primary and continuing education in this field.
