Great tie in

Normally I am strictly a DC Comics guy, but I am a big fan of the show Castle. These graphic novels are based off of the books Richard Castle wrote about Derrick Storm. This graphic novel follows right after the events in Deadly Storm. Derrick Storm is still a private detective, but now he is also a spy working for the CIA. After recently loosing his first CIA handler, he is trying to throw himself into his work. Helping a wealthy heiress get back the money she was conned out of, Storm comes across an African Freedom fighter.

The Freedom fighter tracks Storm down and begs him to find his sister who is trapped in a human traffic ring. I thought this was a great plot especially for a comic book. There is quite a bit of action in this book, and the artwork is really well done. Like any spy novel there are gun fights, chases and beautiful women. One in particular make Storm think he has seen a ghost.

This is the second graphic novel in the Derrick Storm series, and I think they are a lot of fun. If you are a fan of the show but not a fan of comics, I would recommend this. It is a lot of fun as a fan to read these stories that we hear about on the show. The fact it is in a comic makes it even better for me. If you are fan of comics and not the show, I would still recommend this. The story is interesting and the artwork is well done. This is definitely worth the read.

Great Graphics!

The artwork is fantastic. Obviously this is a graphic novel for grown-ups, so to speak, but it's very well written and reads like a novel. It has an interesting plot, and some great twists and ends on a cliffhanger that makes you want more.

Good, sturdy tabs

Just one problem. They don't have enough tabs for us low volt guys. For some bizarre reason there never seems to a tab for Article 640 - Audio. No respect I tell ya, no respect at all.

Great tabs!

Great tabs! They are clear and I do like that they have different colors (not certain this helps, but does add some some aesthetic quality to one of the worlds most drab books). Remember before purchasing; you have to put each individual tab on the book (almost 100). It's meticulous and a pain in the butt, but the end result should save some time down the road.

The title story, a satisfyingly nuanced Wexford whodunit already familiar from anthologies, and ``The Strawberry Tree,'' an extended sketch for a Barbara Vine novel, are the most substantial entries, but the best is the macabre ``In All Honesty''--a tale that destroys four lives with the cheerful efficiency of an office receptionist. A collection of 11 stories

The two longest stories in this collection are the first story, "Blood Lines," an Inspector Wexford tale of 40 pages, and the last story, "The Strawberry Tree," a somewhat strange tale which is 85 pages long. In between are 9 short stories, some of which are only 6 pages. As usual with collections, some stories are better than others. All the stories involve murder, attempted murder, or accidental death, with the exception of "Clothes," which is about a compulsive shopper. As in other English mysteries, guns do not come into play. Murders tend to be by poison or bludgeon. The author has an inventive mind when it comes to eliminating people (I would be afraid to get on her wrong side).
While some stories are very good, I had trouble getting interested in the long novelette, "The Strawberry Tree," which is written in a narrative form with only a little dialogue. The narrative starts on the island of Majorca with no real indication of why the narrator is there, then skips back 40 years to give an account of past events on Majorca, her life in between, and finally her arrival on Majorca where the story started. A mystery is introduced along the way, and a solution is finally presented. This story, like the others, was written in the 1990's, but the Spanish apparently didn't use DNA analysis.

Rendell's Masterpiece

The novelette included in this collection, "The Strawberry Tree," may well be Rendell's masterpiece, the single work that stands above all her other many fine novels and stories. It's a work of exquisite craftsmanship and deep psychological depth. I gasped at one point, laughed at another, and ended in tears. A British television adaptation (with the same title; you can find details at imbd.com) is also excellent.

Short stories that don't feel like a compromise.

Whether in a novel or a short story, Ruth Rendell's storytelling is just captivating. Her style is consistently haunting, there is depth to her characters, and there's the twist which will come at you out of nowhere. Whether you're a dedicated mystery fan or simply enjoy reading extremely skillfully put together prose, regardless of genre, Ruth Rendell is irresistible (and very addictive!).

Fantastic review of one of the great men of science.

Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose is one of the world's forgotten heroes of science. Educated in England, he spent most of his life teaching and researching in Calcutta, India. Bose achieved a number of amazing milestones in his time, including the transmission of radio waves before Marconi, but being Indian, his contribution is often overlooked. While his accomplishments run into many volumes, this work brings together a cornucopia of the most outstanding achievements by way of an almost biographical display of his speeches and travels. If you want to read a brief history of J.C.Bose, there is no better place to start than with this journal of his life and achievements, his international travel and teaching. An easy read, lovingly reproduced. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

Another killer ending

Do you know that feeling where your heart is pounding, you pulse is racing, your stomach twisting in knots, and your adrenaline pumping? All of the six jedi apprentice books have done that to me, and this one is no exception. As an eighteen year old college student, I am well out of the age range, but I not only love these books, I have also gotten my twenty year old roomate hooked on them. My one major problem is the relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan forgave Guerra for betraying him on Bandomeer and almost getting him killed. He also forgave Jono and Nield. I think its time for Qui-Gon to learn another lesson from his padawan, especially since its partly his fault Obi-Wan left. This book adds a depth to both characters that didnt really exist before. Obi-Wan realizes that he is not complete without Qui-Gon, and Qui-Gon begins to realize how much Obi-Wan means to him. They are meant for each other, but they make it so hard for themselves. It also allows us a deeper look into the temple, and the problems there. Its a wonderful book, with great characters who grab your heart and wont let go.

if you are familliar with the series, this book will only reinforce your love of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. I found myself on pins and needles towrds the end, Obi-Wan really grows up in this book and realizes who/what he is - a JEDI! The best part is we get to see Qui-Gon interacting with other jedi, which _really_ helps to flesh him out even more. The only problem i had with this book is that it was too short (as were the other 5)...if only they would make this an adult series! but its still one of the best series out there for the old school jedi faction of star wars fans... :) read it!

This book was awesome. The whole series is great and I can't wait for the next installment. I read this on the way home from school and I realized that this is one book that can really touch you. The realationships between the characters are so complex that you can almost think of the next move they will make. In my opinion Tahl is really cool, Cerasi almost had me in tears, Roenni showed real friendship, Qui-Gon realized that Obi-Wan is just a kid and that you can't give up on kids, Neild learned that you can't trust everybody and Obi-Wan realized what he was... This book has only one fault... it's too short. (And please don't let the age range keep you from buying this book- I'm over the "limit" and I love these books.)
